One of the best things students can do during this time is read. Books, magazines, newspapers and reliable websites are good reading materials. eBooks and eMagazines are available for online checkout from the Iberia Parish Library even while the libraries are closed.

 

Great Minds Wit & Wisdom – Grades 1-2 and some K

Storyline Online – Grades K-4
Summary:
This site streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books. This site supports the fact that reading aloud to children improves reading, writing, communication skills, logical thinkin and concentration and their general academic aptitude. Most of all, reading aloud fosters a lifelong ove of reading. This site is recommended for K-4, however older students may also enjoy Storyline Online.

 

Readingrockets.org – Grades K-6
Summary:
These activities designed for grades K-6 are fun and engaging activities to reinforce ELA skills using resources that you already have at home.
How to Access:

2. Click on the hyperlink for your child’s grade level (PK-2 or 3-6). This will bring you to a variety of activities to engage your child in reading and writing activities.

 

Education.com – Grades 2-6
Summary:
This website contains many activities including printable worksheets and online games with an emphasis on writing, grammar and vocabulary.
How to Access:
1. Parents can access printable worksheets here.
2. Parents can access online games here.
3. On the left hand side, you can filter by grade and subject.

 

Actively Learn – Grades 2-12
Summary:
This site has a variety of reading for many grade levels. each reading includes questions to assess students’ comprehension and understanding of text.
How to Access:
1. Click here.
2. Select “Student Sign Up”.
3. Enter the requested information – name and email or username. Create a password.
4. When it asks if you are joining a teacher’s class, select “No”.
5. Enter your date of birth and check that you are signing up at a parent’s direction.
6. Filter by grade level and topic on the left hand side. Topics include both fiction and nonfiction texts in ELA, scienc and social studies. *Some of the passages are full length novels and others are short articles. If you want to filter the passages by length, you can do so here also.
7. Select a passage, read and answer the questions provided. Once you answer a question, it will show you more of the passage and provide additional questions.

 

Florida Center for Reading Research – Grades K-5
Summary:
This website contains many different activities that are designed for students to reinforce writing and reading skills. The pages can be printed out or used with pencil and paper.
How to Access:

2. Seclect your child’s grade.
3. Select an activity under phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary or comprehension.

 

Reading IQ – Ages 2-12
Summary:
This is a complete digital library that your child can access at any time. With thousands of books to choose from, you child will be continuously engaged. Readers in Spanish are also available.
How to Access:
1. Click here.
2. Select “Redeem a Code” and use code SCHOOL3673.
3. Enter an email address and create a password.
4. Select “Other” when asked how you have heard about Reading IQ and choose “School”.
5. Complete the survey and set up your child on the account. The site even gives your child the option to take a short assessment to determine your child’s reading level and set up appropriate reading recommendations.

 

Vocabulary.com - Elementary - High School
Summary:
This site helps you learn new words, play games that improve your vocabulary, and explore language.
How to Access:
1. Click here.
2. Select “Sign up as a Student.”
3. Complete the sign up process and confirm your email. 
4. Sign in and begin playing and learning new vocabulary.
5. If you need a hint, three options “50/50,” “Word in the Wild,” and “Definition” are available.

 

SuccessMaker Grades K-8
Summary:
SuccessMaker is an adaptive and prescriptive scheduling intervention program delivering a Reading curriculum for grades K-8.  Students are engaged with game play, choices, rewards and multiple levels of challenge.

1. Visit sm.iberia.k12.la.us
2. Enter your 7 digit student number as the username and password.
3. Select the course you want to work on (Reading or Math).
