2022-2023 Operational Plan

This plan helps to support safe, in-person learning for K-12 campuses, and keep them open, while managing the spread of COVID-19. Based on COVID-19 Community levels, the plan provides flexibility so that protocols can be modified to changing local situations, including periods of increased community health impacts from COVID-19. 
 
COVID-19 Vaccination Policies
The Iberia Parish School Board does not have a policy that requires vaccinations for students or staff.   Vaccinations and boosters are encouraged.  Immunization planning resources can be found on the Louisiana Department of Health website. 
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, should be tested for COVID-19. 

Parent & Employee Protocols and Screening Overview
Parents of students and employees are encouraged to self monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to arrival on campus.  Individuals with a temperature should not report to school or work.  Click HERE for school COVID-19  screening decision chart for parents/students and staff members.  This procedure is adapted from the Louisiana Department of Health.  Individuals must stay home, inform the school and notify their healthcare provider if he/she has fever and/or have two or more of the following symptoms:  
     Fever (100.4 or higher)
     Shortness of breath
     Chest pain, cough, body aches or fatigue
     GI symptoms (nausea, diarrhea),  loss of taste, loss of smell
     Other flu or cold-like symptoms such as headache, sore throat, or congestion.  

An individual must stay home if he/she is experiencing COVID-like symptoms (fever and/or any two or more COVID-19 symptoms)  Students will be adequately supervised until the student is picked up.  It will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to promptly pick up the student from school.

Requirements to return to school/work for symptomatic or COVID-19 positive individuals:
1.  Five (5) days after symptom onset OR five (5) days after testing positive if you have no symptoms. Day 6-10 return to school or work wearing a mask. If school cannot ensure masking for 5 days, then the individual should isolate for the full 10 days.

2.  24 hours fever-free without the use of fever-reducing meds
                               AND
3.  Significant improvement of symptoms
                                OR
4.  A written letter from Healthcare Provider with an alternate diagnosis

Enhanced Safety Measures

• Schools will teach and reinforce proper handwashing hygiene to lower the risk of spreading viruses. Hand washing will be monitored and reinforced during key times in the day (e.g. before and after eating and after recess).
• Schools will teach and reinforce covering coughs and sneezes to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
• Schools will clean surfaces at least once a day to reduce the risk of germs spreading by touching surfaces. If a facility has had a sick person or someone who tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 24 hours, the space will be cleaned and disinfected. 
• Wearing masks is optional. Face coverings are required for five (5) days when returning from being COVID positive.  Masks must be worn on day 6-10.  If masks cannot be worn, the individual quarantines for the full 10 days.  Masks/coverings must not contain wording, emblems and/or insignias that promote profanity, obscenity, political messages, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, or gang/hate-related slogans.  Also, masks/coverings cannot contain images of faces. 
• Bus Transportation: masks are optional for all students and drivers. Hand sanitizer will be available for students entering the bus.  Buses will be sanitized between routes and at the end of the day.
• Currently we are not  conducting contact tracing, Our district will be flexible and fluid and will reinstate contract tracing  if there is an increase of COVID- 19  community levels. 

Curriculum

• Currently we are providing face to face instruction as well as a virtual program. The district is prepared to transition to virtual instruction if the need arises due to an increase level of COVID-19 community levels.
• The district maintains a 1:1 device ratio of technology to students in the event that virtual learning needs to be reinstated.  

Visitors on Campus
The safety of our staff and students is our main concern.  Currently our schools are open to visitors. Individuals  who are positive for COVID 19, experiencing COVID 19 symptoms,  or who have been in contact with a positive individual should not be visiting a school campus.
