Weekly Learning Opportunities

en español

The Iberia Parish School System is happy to provide the option for parents to receive  "Weekly Learning Opportunities" directly from their children's teachers.

The weekly communication will offer parents the following:

  1. Optional weekly activities designed to engage children with specific content and skills that would normally be covered in their classrooms at this time of the school year
  2. Short activities targeting different subject areas
  3. Guidance for parents on using internet-based instructional resources with their children

Any parent who would like to sign-up to receive the optional weekly communication should send an email to each of their children's teachers requesting to be included.  Please email teachers by Friday, April 3, 2020.

This service is being provided to assist parents who are interested in optional home learning opportunities.  The district is not participating in Distance Education.  These opportunities are optional, and no assignments or graded activities are being conducted.

The school system is also planning to make resources available to parents who do not currently have internet access.  This service will be offered once the Governor's "Stay at Home" order has been lifted and school personnel and parents can safely leave their homes to prepare and pick-up paper packets.

SPECIAL NOTE

We must ensure compliance with IDEA law and section 504, as well as Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Our self-contained teachers, as well as our resource teachers, will collaborate with regular ed teachers in an attempt to give parents related modifications for the instructional resources provided to the parents.  All teachers must make decisions on a case by case basis with these resources. IPSD cannot, at this time, provide all services in the same manner they are typically provided. However, IPSD will work collaboratively and creatively to continue to meet the needs of students with disabilities.  IPSD will continue to take necessary actions to protect the health, safety, and welfare of students and school staff. In doing so, we feel utilizing these optional instructional resources for parents is the best method for our principals and teachers to stay connected during this national emergency.
