Superintendent's Message

Carey Laviolette, Superintendent

We are privileged to have you visit the Iberia Parish School District website.  The district is honored to serve approximately 12,000 diverse students with almost 1,650 dedicated employees in the communities of Delcambre, Jeanerette, Loreauville, and New Iberia.  The school district is grateful to the constituents of these communities for supporting and investing in twenty-three well-maintained schools and two additional program facilities.  The support of the citizens has also allowed the school system to keep the safety and security of the students and staff a high priority.  The procurement of bus camera systems, electronic-controlled entries, metal detectors, scanning wands, and resource officers help to provide multiple security layers of protection during these troubling times.  Additionally, following COVID-19 CDC Guidelines provides employees, students, and visitors safety reassurance while on school campuses.

Although, District Performance Scores (DPS) have not been released since the 2018-2019 school year, the Iberia Parish School District maintains a “B” letter grade.  While the 2020 COVID-19 school shutdowns and difficult 2021 reopening may have hindered students’ academic progress, the district is proud of its comprehensive plan for academic acceleration, which includes an academic and enrichment summer program, as well as intervention time embedded in school schedules.  Students are also engaged in enhanced instruction with the use of individual electronic devices, Tier I rated curriculum and opportunities for college dual enrollment and industry-based certifications.

While the emotional toll of a global pandemic is difficult to measure, the district provides additional support services for students and employees with the expansion of social workers located on school campuses.  Also, the district has a total of fourteen nurses to enhance response time when dealing with health issues.

Even with the educational challenges of a global pandemic recovery, our teachers and administrators strive to ensure that student learning is the highest priority and are willing to participate in continuous professional development.  As a result, Iberia Parish students graduate prepared for success in post-secondary education, the military, or the work force - and ultimately in an ever-changing world.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the Iberia Parish Public School District.
